Downgraded...
Jul. 18th, 2010 12:41 pmThe Qwest guy turned up this morning and had a rummage around the various wires connecting the house to the Interwebs and then came to deliver his verdict.
I can't have 5Mbs.
That's basically been the root of all problems for the last year or so. The quality of the copper in this area means an absolute maximum of 3Mbs.
So what's been happening is as the line tries to get me to 5Mbs, the error rate creeps up until I'm getting significantly less than 5. Nothing he can do about it until they finish installing the new fibre up the street, then I can have 12 or 20. Anyway, basically, the only sensible fix is to have the line officially downgraded to 3MBs and wait for the upgrade.
This puts me in a quandary. I've got a few months left on my direct TV contract, which is tied into the phone and DSL. I could cancel then and move over to Comcast - but the Comcast equipment is a bit crap compared to DTV, I detest the Motorola boxes they're using here. Plus I'm not sure I trust Comcast for internet.
I'll have a think about it.
Either way, I need to have a long talk with Qwest about not getting the service I've been paying for.
