Inane, silly, uninformed
May. 22nd, 2006 06:10 pmI get annoyed when I hear bloggers going on and on and on and on about how noble they are, how they fact check, how they are beter than the MSM (Main Stream Media), then I read statements like this...
"Now I'm wondering how a comedian and amateur historian gets placed in the role of righting what apparently is a Great Moral Wrong of ancient history -- the tired straw man of Celtic backwardness. Apparently times are tough in the history departments of British universities. No tweedy scholar with a promotional bent is up to the task. But in the spirit of Terry Jones, let me also do a bit of armchair amateur philosophizing"
Link!
So, while there may well be issues with Terry Jones position, I haven't read it and don't know enough history - I take issue with a blogger using that kind of phrasing.
Terry Jones does have a degree in History; he has published several history books; he gives a cracking lecture, especially on the death of Chaucer, a subject, I am told he is considered a world expert on.
I suppose being a comedian means he can't actually be taken seriously. Graham Garden therefore can't be a mdeical doctor I suppose, nor Phil Hammond, nor the late Graham Chapman...
Idiot.
