Not content with going bankrupt, the, frankly, bizzare Overdraft systems in this country should be made illegal.
We've moved to twice monthly payments from every 2 weeks, and it's providing tricky to re-schedule payments like credit cards etc... I just paid off my credit cards only the clearance payments hit the account the day before pay day. Result. $68 in charges and a rejected payment which will cost me another $35.
Response from bank. Even though the credit was made the made the next day, they still rejected the payments and charged me for it. As these things go, I've had worse, but the idea that "Overdraft Protection" means that we'll make the payments and charge you $34 a pop is insulting.
Not to mention, that's $34 for an automated system which the phone bankers tell me determines everything...
No wonder the banks are so ill thought of here.
If a few days had passed I'd be less annoyed. But to have the fees assessed on the same day as I'm back in credit is really annoying.
EDIT: They've refunded two of the three charges and accepted there wasn't a lot I could do to avoid it rather than keeping higher balances in my account. Yeah, 'cos that makes sense given the interest rates you charge.
