A look at the Loncon post they did today and it seems the challenge is that rooms filled up for people wanting the days either side of the convention AND the convention. Sounds like there's good availability in several of the hotels for the convention itself.
Thing is, and I mean this all seriously. If you're planning on seeing London, or the UK before/after the convention, in the name of all that is holy to you, don't do it from Docklands as a base. Find a hotel or apartment rental around Paddington/Bayswater or similar, or get out to Bath and the like. You'll almost certainly get better price deals outside of Docklands too, especially now all the banks have moved there.
That's certainly what I'm doing. Schleping in and out of Docklands every day after seeing London or going on day trips will get old, especially if you want to see the West of the Country.
