So.... Doctor Who then?
Nov. 27th, 2013 11:32 amI'm going to work on the assumption that everybody has seen it now. If not, WHAT IN THE NAME OF HELL ARE YOU DOING?
I liked it. It was pretty much designed to hit all my buttons. From the title sequence harping back to the first episode, Ian Chesterton's name on the Coal Hill School sign and a hundred other little easter eggs it was really a glorious fan homage.
It's also dealt with the problems inherent since the reboot. Without Galifrey and the Time Lords what becomes of the Doctor... he's been an angry, shouty, 'loud' presence across the universe of the Who reboot, and it just feels strange that the Dalek's got out, but not the Timelords? Except, of course, we saw that Rassilon and the High Council succeeded in getting out.
It's clear now that Moffet has had enough of that. He wants Galifrey back and he wants to close the circle of the Doctor's life. We now know that Galifrey Stands. It survived the Time War and the Doctor is going to find it and, to one degree of another, go home again.
So what does that mean? I'm going to assume that the High Council and Rasilon are still stuck in their own pocket universe - more than once in the lose canon that is Dr Who, the nightmare that the early Time Lords were has come up. It sounds like they wanted them back to run the Time War, but they should be gone. Assuming that the Capitol is gone, that leaves what? Do the Time Lord's have any of their power left? Do they need to recreate things? If so, isn't it handy that the Doctor stole the Hand of Omega and hid it on Earth?
We have to assume that whatever the Doctor saw as a child in the Untempered Schism forshadowed the destruction of Galifrey and his role, probably through the influence of The Moment, so he was driven to run, to start the calculations running in the TARDIS memory and then forget everything except he had to run.
Does this meant that Moffet wants to also address Galifrey again, and return to elements of what Cartmel tried to do all those years ago?
