Rats...

I've been fighting a rat problem over the last year.  It's endemic in our part of the city and we've a nice basement for them to lurk in.  So I've been putting down poison, the idea being they gorge themselves and then head off to die.  Except we just had one that didn't head very far :(

There's been a funky smell in the basement for about a week and while I was away M tracked the source, which she nicely left for me to deal with it.  So I just wrangled a dead rat.  Lovely.  Now I need to get some bleach or something strong for the area where it was stuck.

Stockholm Syndrome...

There's something I find deeply perverse about American politics at the moment.  Something called the 53% has been started (no, I'm not going to link, they don't need the traffic and you, readers, don't need to have to have your head bleached).  They're a "grass roots" movement that's funded by a couple of right wing think tanks.

People are "sharing" pictures with something along the lines of: I work 3 jobs, I have no insurance, my house is under water, stop whining etc...

The bit that really gets me about this is simple: having to work 3 jobs to make ends meet, and live without access to healthcare IS NOT A BADGE OF FUCKING HONOUR!

It's evidence that everything in the standard narrative is completely wrong.  The actual job creators have been effectively gutted over the last 30 years.  The "revolution" that happened starting in the 1980s was mostly built on cheap money and cheap debt and gave a false sense of wealth.  People weren't actually better off of course, they just thought they were.  They could buy things easily on cheap credit and tap into the rising value of their homes to release liquidity.  All the while people weren't noticing that you just couldn't afford to do things any more.

I have no idea where this is going to end up.  But the sight of people wearing their servitude with pride is just sickening.
