It's the Seattle Sea Fair this weekend, which means the Blue Angels are a-comin'....

This presents a problem as we live on top of Capitol Hill where they make their turn back to fly over the lake.  Having an F18 do a 180 over your house at about 3000 feet is not something the dogs take kindly too, nor, frequently do the local car alarms.  I believe practice starts tomorrow.  It's going to get loud around here.

Well, shock of shocks Apple have approved the Renovation App...  which means that later today the Renovation Mobile App will be available as a Free Download.

We're not going to push PR on this yet because it still needs to be switched over to the live program which I think is later this week.  We've taken on board some of your comments, but with the timescales and the number of compromises we had to make, there are still some problems or bits we're not happy with.  OTOH - faced with actually having an app and not having an app - we've gone with the app option :)

The native app version has the benefit, for international travelers that it should work offline, providing you're online when you launch it the first time, so it can sync the fairly massive database.

I'll be interested in people's reactions in Reno, but, for me, the ability to have my Read Me actually in my pocket, along with a way to easily track the Social Scene and have updates, room changes and so forth sent to my phone directly is going to be amazing.

We've even included a "What's on now and coming next" feature, so if you have time to kill, you'll be able to see what's on there and then...

For those wanting to know more about the recent DDoS attacks, yes, it looks like it was the Russian government trying to shut down the dissidents again.

As I said last time, while it's frustrating not to have access, LJ is a lot more than a social network platform. From the article:

"LiveJournal isn’t just a social network. It’s also a platform for organizing civic action. Dozens of network projects and groups mobilize people to solve specific problems — from defending the rights of political prisoners to saving endangered historic architecture in Moscow."

So while I know many are considering the move over to Dreamwidth and other such sites, supporting LJ is a way we can help support those who use it for more than a writing/roleplaying/social venue.

Also, as a FYI, LJ is giving paid users effected by the outage two weeks of paid time as compensation.

The app is in the App Store and can be downloaded here:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/renovation/id453623856?ls=1&mt=8

Enjoy.  There is an update in for approval that fixes a couple of bugs we've spotted. Occasionally, the screen will bork slightly in rotation and the a-z pick list for participants doesn't work until you scroll the list.

I'll post the link to the Android App tomorrow.

The iPhone app works on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.
