Crap, crap and thrice crap...
Jul. 13th, 2010 04:43 pm The Puppy (daft thing to call a 60lb animal) was playing with a bunch of other hyper-kinetic Chocolate Labs on Saturday and started limping. This is hardly unusual, Labs attract damage like human toddlers. She wasn't any better on Sunday and yesterday I called the vet. They suggested it was probably a sprain so we made an appointment for today.
Today she was much better, putting more weight on it and generally a bit more chipper. But I kept the appointment, by which time she was hardly limping at times. Yay, think I, we'll spend $300 and be told that she's fine.
Nope.
She's broken a toe. It's a hell of a break, a clean shear of what would be in a human the big toe, right where it joins the foot. So, that's another $150 for a split, bandaging, and drugs. LOTS of drugs.
Practically the entire veterinary staff came to console me - one of the upsides of having an extremely cute young dog - and outline all the wonderful, and expensive things we have to look forward to. Weekly bandage changes, a new set of x-rays in 2-3 weeks ($200) to check on the healing process, and 2 weeks of doggy tranqs to keep her from making it worse and driving me insane.
So that's an insurance claim to put in and another bill we can ill afford.
*sigh*
But she is a really cute dog.
