That was emotional...
Jun. 25th, 2010 10:20 amSince we became dog owners we've developed a bad habit for finding lost dogs. Generally we've had a good record of happy endings where it's a dog that's managed to get out of a yard and gone to explore. Sometimes this ends badly, a dog ran under the car in front of me a few months ago.
Yesterday was hard for other reasons. I spotted a Weimaraner wandering around near the house. She was old but very docile and I had no trouble getting her into the car. But, no collar, no chip, I had no choice but to take her down to the Dog Shelter. The guess was that she's in her teens, pretty old for a large dog. Her teeth were in bad shape, and I suspect that there was a tumor growing on her side.
That said, she was a lovely old dog. Mellow, relaxed and seemed happy. Leaving her at the shelter was awful, she got distressed when I left, but at least they'll be able to look after her. Sadly there's no way that an elderly dog can live with two hyper-energetic young labs.
Anyway, that wasn't all that fun.
