[livejournal.com profile] fringefaan came around last night for some beers and a curry I knocked up.  We also decided to watch a couple of the things I'd tagged in Netflix as worth having a look at.

#6 Destination Mars - this is a modern spoof of a 50s SF movie made by people who have watched too much 50s SF.  Spoof might be the wrong word, it was more an homage to Ed Wood.  Still delightfully silly fun.

#7 Las Vegas in Space - yeah, worse than it sounds...  it looked bad in the write up and even for Troma movies it was bad.  With more alcohol this might be worth a revisit.  All I can say is the sex change scene is hillarious.

#8 Little Shop of Horrors - the 1960 Roger Corman original.  Delightfully odd and interestingly the play and 1986 remake were from the same writer.  It's extremely budget constrained and a lot more jewish than I expected.  Although the real shock was Jack Nicholson as the masochist dental patient.  He was very very young.

Back to normal, but missing "real" coffee today.  The decaff stuff isn't hitting the mark.

It needs a LOT more kneeding next time you make it.  There was far far far too much air in it.  Apart from that the consistency and taste was pretty much spot on.

I know I'm not feeling as snarky as I didn't bother replying.

It's here.

Mr Simberg and his merry crew do it again.

My concern with this decision is the root question of whether or not a corporation can be considered as an individual.  And, I have the same issue with extremely wealthy individuals and unions having a "pay to play" interest in politics.

The reality is that while money isn't a guarantee that a particular candidate would win an election, it's a massive help, especially in the version of democracy the US seems to prefer.  The potential distorting effects that this sort of thing hands over to special interests of companies is amazing.  I think people, especially over on Simberg's blog, just don't seem to have any real understanding of how businesses actually function in the real world.  What I can't figure out is where this blind spot comes from?
