I'm doing a final back up on my old laptop and it feels a little like defusing a bomb right now.

Having worked perfectly yesterday it took me 30 minutes to get it to boot this morning and then it hung, then 10 minutes and just as I was ready for the back up a BSOD and finally now, after over an hour it's backing up to my WD Book.

I've got the data drive being sucked clean and I'm currently exporting the back up PST archive folders from the local HDD.

It just needs to last another couple of hours.

Currently it's sitting between me and my desktop keyboard because I'm afraid to move the bloody thing.

Laptop is backed up. Phew.  New one is in San Diego being configured and new phone is in post.  Lots of IT geekage for me on Friday then.

Got to run to the bank and send money home.  (a) the dollar is strong today (1.95 being relative) and (b) we have a mortgage offer.

Ok, so we have the WRONG mortgage offer, the numbskulls sent us an Interest Only offer and we want to be grown up and responsible and have a proper repayment.  Still, they've sorted the paperwork and will be sending it over to me.  So in a couple of weeks we'll have a repayment mortgage, but it means I'll have to make a significantly larger than normal mortgage payment.

On this score we're doing exactly what we promised ourselves we'd do when we got the low start interest only mortgage.  We've moved to a 23 year repayment, so it will actually be nice to know that we're paying it off.  Of course, the hope we have is to pay it off quicker than that.  The gating factor is whether or not we stay in the US and if we can afford to buy something here.  I'm hearing rumours that property in the Bay Area is in a degree of freefall, so we might be able to afford to do that.
