More Thoughts on the iPhone/Touch
Jan. 30th, 2008 12:31 amI've downloaded the new software update for my Touch which basically gives it the rest of the iPhone functionality (without the phone of course) and while I am still trying to work out why I had to pay $20 for functionality which should have come out of the box, it's been interesting to look at it.
The good: It all looks fecking astonishing. Really, the eye-candy is lovely. I'm even getting slightly used to the hideous soft keyboard. It's ALMOST enough to make me want an iPhone.
But I don't. I jotted down a list of all the _essential_ stuff missing from the iPhone that no amount of eye candy (seriously, the Notes application is gorgeous!) or cool features can mask.
In no particular order:
Oh, I'm also told they're missing decent Bluetooth profiles too.

In no particular order:
- 3G
- No sensible application framework (ok, I know this is coming)
- Borked email implementation for everything other than simple IMAP or POP
- No cut and paste
- No Flash
- No Office applications - yes I want at least Office viewers and a PDF viewer
- MMS
- No video recording
- No GPS and no means too add one
- No Micro-SD slot
- No removable battery (a must on a 3G device)
- Reasonable MegaPixel camera
Oh, I'm also told they're missing decent Bluetooth profiles too.
