So bright and early we present ourselves at the closest Seattle DMV.  There were already 20 people in the queue at 8:15 and as we queue I realise I have left my passport in my other jacket.  It was much warmer this morning and I didn't stop to think when I left home.  SO, leaving M to do the paperwork for her license, I had to "nip" back to the appartment and then back to the arse end of nowhere to represent.

Then I got to do the computer based test which I passed, and then we found that due to one thing and another we can't get a test until 2 weeks from now...  I'm still waiting to see what impact that has the car purchase.  One thing for sure, the staff at the DMV have certainly been to the Selma and Patty school of charm and etiquette.   So, we have physical driving tests for 9am on the 20th.  It takes _up to_ 15 minutes.  So my 30 minute+ test in a manual car in 1986 plus 20 years of driving aren't good enough for you eh?

Anyway, then we had to tear back to town to sort out auto insurance which was actually cheaper than I expected, a lot cheaper, certainly less than the UK would be even with my 60% no claims discount.  While we were there the insurance person metioned life insurance.  This raised a good point, like most people M and I used work coverage rather than separate life cover, so we're currently WAYYYY under insured.  So we thought it would be worth getting sufficient cover to cover the mortgage and help the other out.  That's not too pricey, but the medical they demand you take is, at least in my opinion, a little onerous.  Not so much for the tests, but for the need for a HIV test, which does seem OTT - I might be out of touch on this and it might be quite normal.  The probability of either of us even having been exposed to the virus are vanishingly small, but it seems an un-necessarily invasive test - OTOH, it'll come up negative...

Still, it just seems a bit OTT.

Anyway, 6 hours of the day gone and I can finally try and get my head back into a workplace.  Bloody pain in the arse this.
