Shipping: Buy Versus Build
Jan. 4th, 2007 02:14 pmSo, we've finally got the quote. We had originally expected to ship about 3m^3 to the US, but after a lot of discussion we were curious about the cost to ship everything we have in storage, about 10m^3(ish, I think it's more like 8 myself).
Basically it comes down to this. What is the difference in cost between the amount we will pay to keep everything in storage for a year, versus shipping the lot to Seattle. Its interesting. Basically, the difference between shipping and storing is £200, which means that it makes more sense to ship the whole damn lot.
On the plus side, that means we'll have some stuff coming we won't need to buy. On the down side, it will mean finding a home for things in the apartment. Some of those things aren't a chore. Books for example.
Alternatively, the appartment offers low cost storage to residents and some of what we have can sit there.
Still, it will be good to have some of this stuff coming out.
