That's Handy Harry
Nov. 9th, 2006 05:33 pmOne of the problems you get when you move to foreign parts is you don't have a credit record where you go to. You might have loads of money at home, but try telling that to a foreign bank manager. When we moved to the US last time I got an American Express card because I'd heard they made life easy for moving.
It's true. They do.
They need a permanent US address, or at least an address I'll be living at, and then a US SSN (which apparently Washington State are very good at issuing) and they'll issue a card backed by my UK credit rating which will appear on a US credit report. That's going to make life a lot easier.

In other dull news... logisitics...
Nov. 9th, 2006 05:39 pmNow we're talking about moving, a lot of things are popping up for consideration.
1. I'll have to resign from the UK in order to be employed by the US. This will likely be Jan 1st, although we won't move until about the 8th 'cos the flight options are limited
2. We need to work out what stays and what goes from the flat and start the process of letting it out. We'll be letting fully furnished but there's still quite a lot we have to decide to take or leave
3. Arrange shipping for what we want to take
4. Find a corporate 3 month furnished let in Seattle for Jan to March (finding a house and car have to wait)
5. Move our stored stuff into a cheaper locker and tidy that up; get rid of anything we don't need.
If anybody needs a 28" TV + DVD player, chest of drawers, freezer or lamp, let me know.
