In My Ongoing War...
May. 25th, 2006 03:23 pm...against Bloggers who represent themselves as being more honest and truthful than the "MSM"- I came across this nuget attacking Al Gore.
Many years ago I was given a copy of a Watchtower publication on Evolution from a JW who happened to make the mistake of knocking on my door when I was prepared to engage him in discussion. Like this article, many of the "facts" presented in the publication were technically true - however, the context in which the "fact" was used rendered it meaningless.
Likewise, the article from TCS manages to "rubbish" Al Gore by referring to out of date research, make spurious connections and leap to a number of conclusions which can't be drawn. It's worth reading it, if only for the first fact. An appeal to a study from the early 1990s which concluded that there wasn't enough data to draw a conclusion...
Gosh. Really?
Well, sadly, the early 1990s were quite a long time ago. I wish they weren't, but that's time travel for you.

Cheating and Old Friends
May. 25th, 2006 10:10 pmM was at her company "pub quiz" tonight, and I have to say that, yes, it is cheating to phone your husband and ask what the TV series was called which the film Serenity was based on...
I, on the other hand, had 4 hours of conference calls, ending at 8pm and went for a curry. There's a lot of curry places on the Uxbridge Road, and I decided to try the largest and grandest looking - the staff were attentive, the beer cold, the clients almost all Asian - however... the curry was rather pedestrian. It is rather disappointing to go somewhere where everything looks and feels right, but yet manages to under deliver.
To make up for it I phoned a bunch of old friends I haven't spoken to in ages. It was nice, interesting to catch up with people whom you've shared the odd email with and speak to them.
