Gosh... So Busy...
Mar. 14th, 2006 11:01 amIn Bath today. Finally got to a dump too, which means the car is no longer full of boxes - there's another load on the landing though :(
Still don't have that moved in feel though. Somebody, I assume the person who fitted the Sky dish, hacked off the rooftop aerial connection, so I'm making do with an internal aerial, which isn't optimal for Freeview - I keep losing half the channels and they are the ones I want. I've also got a couple of problems with the Media Centre PC - which is to be expected I suppose.
There seems to be a fault with the dual tuner card, so that the OS is not picking up the USB jumper to allow the second tuner to function. I've got to take it apart and check that the USB jumpers are connected to the right port on the motherboard. If that doesn't solve it, they think there might be a hardware fault. There's also a flaw with the DVD drivers which allow the DVD drive to function with DVD-ROMs but throw up a nasty error when you try with a media disk. I suspect a driver problem myself which should be easily fixed. Other than that I'm rather happy with it.
I am having throughput issues on my local network I've set up, but I think that's to do with where the ASDL wireless router is at the moment. I've not finished setting up the office and current positioning is not what could be called optimal for performance. I'll get that fixed at the weekend when I finish sorting out the office.
The UK Online 22MB broadband has dropped out a couple of times but seems to be settling down. It is blindingly fast when it works. I've caught up on some TV - including a download of the season finale of BSG which came down the pipe in under 40 minutes last night - not bad for Bit Torrent on a 350MB file. Watching the files is a dream with the MEPC interface and actually the TV handling and PVR functions are pretty damn good. Certainly better than the Telewest service we had.
Some of the stuff we need has ended up at the back of the storage locker, which is bad, and will entail a half day of back breaking labour to fix. However, generally speaking we're in.
The BBQ is ready for whoever may want it - when they get back from the US.
We also have a small upright freezer if anybody wants to take it off my hands.
