Having a fight with Brent Council over parking fines - just had a rather obnoxious South African put the phone down on me for pointing out that she was being an obnoxious South African. M is going to handle it from now, probably for the best. She knows how to say rude things in Afrikaans.

Almost threw the radio out of the kitchen window this morning listening to Hitchins on the Today program going on about how much better Imperial measures are than metric. You find certain Libertarian types have a hang up about Imperial, they also have a stock in pointless excuses and myths.

It is not more "instinctive" - it only seems that way if you grow up with something.

No, they do not sell wine in 1 litre bottles (well, actually they do) but it is sold world wide in metric measures.

Other countries have managed to move, so it's not impossible.

It's going to be one of those days. I've eaten a Mars Bar I didn't need and I think I'm going to buy a Media Centre PC I don't need either.

Proud New Owner

Of a Media Centre PC. I managed to get what looks like a good deal, albeit badly advertised, from a well regarded eBay seller. So fingers crossed. It will solve a bunch of problems for me when we move concerning BT of TV shows and general TV watching/recording.

In all good conscience I can't justify getting Sky, neither on cost grounds, nor giving any money to Murdoch.

Travel Whinge

So, having spent an hour on the phone to our senior admin dealing with her complaints about my complaints about our travel booking system I get an email about some forth coming travel.

Trip 1: LHR-Dallas
It would seem that BA don't fly direct from LHR to Dallas - but they do from Gatwick. Rather than pointing this out, they booked me routes via Boston and Chicago. *sigh* - pain that Gatwick is, it's less of a pain than changing planes in the USA.

Somebody should have spotted that.

Trip 2: LHR-Las Vegas
There are no direct BA flights to Vegas. Not a problem. What is a problem is having me change planes in Chicago or Boston or Washington and in one case putting me on a Red-Eye to the above for a long lay over.

Especially when I know I could fly to LAX and get 1 of a dozen flights an hour to Vegas.

Some of the travel I do is hard, this stuff is not.

Where the hells has today gone to???

Going out for an "English" with some visiting Japanese people. Should be interesting.
