Tonight I have been mostly...
Mar. 7th, 2005 11:35 pm...packing.
I had the case done, it was perfect, everything was in and it looked good. Then I found the walking boots and the bag of teddy bears (don't ask) - bugger. Still it is looking pretty tight. For some reason the luggage allowance to RSA is 23kgs, where I've got used to packing for the US allowance of 60+.
The problem is my shoes. I have very big feet and a couple of pairs of shoes for me weigh in at around 5kgs+ - that's a problem when you factor in the rest of the clutter. Still, I've got room for stuff in there, and a change of clothes in my hand luggage.
When I leave for work tomorrow morning, I'll be in the office in Bath for a few hours, then in the car and drive to Heathrow for a 3pm meeting, then check in at Terminal 1 at 6 and then off to RSA and sun, and heat and a Safari at Thanda (Thanda)... so I'll definately be needing a change of clothes in Jo'berg.
The weird thing, and this sounds silly, is that I travel so much and have travelled so much already this year, that this doesn't feel all that much like a holiday. I think when I arrive in RSA and there are no meetings, only huge prawns and good wine, then I'll be feeling more holiday like.
I am taking the laptop and I promise that I will do some writing while away.
