This weekend I was mostly...
Dec. 1st, 2003 10:07 am...cleaning.
And my oh my how I ache now. No need for the gym this weekend, that's for damn sure.
We have M's family staying from Friday and I've been worried about the state of the carpets for a while. So, throwing caution to the wind, I hired a carpet cleaner from Homebase (£13.99 for 24 hours). So Saturday was spent tidying things up, cleaning stuff up and then moving furniture so I could use "the beast".
The "beast" was red, looked a bit like one of the driods from Silent Running and weighed around 30kg's. When you hit the "Vacuum On" switch the whole house would start vibrating and when the "engage" trigger was pulled it would clamp itself to the carpet and you'd have to haul the damn thing backwards to get the cleaning agent circulating.
This was hard physical labour, especially when it took a dozen refils of the water/detergent resevoir (9litres) to get our living room carpet back to a colour I felt we could live with. Of course, the stuff coming out of the waste water container was pretty disgusting.
Anyway, at least it was a job you could see the results from as the carpets and our new lounge layout are most pleasing to me.
