An interesting comparison of Vietnam and Iraq can be found here

An example: A Soviet Army veteran on Russian TV last week offered a useful reminder: “We took the presidential palace in Kabul in three hours. We took the city in 24 hours. It was only 10 years later that we left, and there were no smiles on our faces.”

Just had 2 cups of quite strong fresh coffee and now I'm buzzing lightly. Wheee!!!! Better get on with some work while the feeling of being awake lasts.

Let me first say I'm happy that Saddam seems to be gone.

Good. Got that out the way.

I'm watching the news tonight feeling faintly sick. I can't actually believe they've managed to spin this in "the war for the freedom of the Iraqi people" - the hell it is.

I just cannot believe the rank hypocracy of all of this. I've been called a cynic today, but rather cynical than hypocritical. We didn't do this for Iraq. If there hadn't been a personal issue involved, or for that matter GW1 we'd still be selling him fecking weapons.

We're not going after other dictators unless they're upset with them. The people of Zimbabwe aren't going to be liberated, nor the people of Congo - nor, to be frank the people of North Korea.

This "stopping injustice" hype that Rumsfeld is spreading is leaving me feeling quite ill.

*sigh* Sorry, I'll stop now, had to get that off my chest.
