I have an old NatWest joint account with my ex-wife. It has about £15 in it. We are not on speaking terms and frankly I've been happy to ignore the damn thing.

It would appear that when Natwest last changed my address, not only did they change my account, the old joint account but also her personal accounts.

When she called to complain that (a) asked her if she knew about my current address, and (b) sent a letter to appologise to her at *my* address.

M is pretty damn unhappy about it. Can't imagine why.

You really ought to sort it out and get the account cancelled. I have to admit to being in a similar situation though J has my signature on the form which cancels the account and pays the balance to her.

The BIG problem is that you are still liable for any debts on that account should they happen for some reason. That sounds like enough of a reason to sort it out.

The account itself has been frozen since 1997, so there's no way that anybody could draw upon it. That's why it's been left dormant for so long.

Why not suggest Nat West closes the account and donates the residue to charity? Unless you need both signatures, of course.
