Last night we went to see Santa Claus Conquers the Martians at the University Theatre up in the U District. Why?  I hear you ask.  Well, it was part of the Twisted Flicks serious run by Seattle improve group Jet City Improv.

I was at somewhat of a disadvantage in that I've actually seen the original but I wasn't going to let that stand in the way of what was a rather fun night.  Basically this is similar to Mystery Science Theater 3000 except rather than comments they have redubed the entire film and sound track, no unlike what Adult Swim do to cartoons.

It was excellent.  The theatre was surprisingly comfortable, and had a full bar service which operated throughout the whole movie.

The film itself is awful, really bad.  But they did an excellent job with keeping the whole thing moving, including fitting in some suggestions from the audience on how people should be played.  Santa was, in this case, Evil.  Best line came reasonably early on with one of the elves in Evil Santa's workshop pointing at a small wooden box and saying, "it's a coffin for a baby..."

Great stuff.

They do this once a month.  Next up is The Lost World, which I think I'll skip.  February is Captain Scarlett, that I may have to see.  I can see how you can make fun of Gerry Anderson stuff, but I'll admit I quite liked Captain Scarlett.
