Displaced in Time, displaced in Space
Dec. 31st, 2013 03:10 pmI've been feeling a little bit homesick the last few weeks. Nothing specific just I've not been back in the UK since Feb, and this is the first year since we moved that I haven't been back at least twice. Plus they closed my local Indian Restaurant just as I'd got them cooking something not quite entirely like the Indian food I like.
As we roll into the end of the year, it's a little weird to be watching 2014 wash across my friends and family at home, while it's still the middle of the afternoon here. Which somehow makes the feeling of disconnect ever stronger. An hour from now it'll be 2014 in the UK, and we're planning to have a quiet evening at home, probably some wine too.
Anyway, next year I'm going to be back in the UK at least twice. Once for Mobile World Congress in Feb and then Loncon3, which should be excellent. Although I really do hope I can find a sane way to use some of my air miles and fly in comfort.
So looking forward here's the hopes for the new year, resolutions seems a bit grand really. We'll perhaps think of them as goals.
1) Get the company on an even footing and pay down some of the debt it's caused
2) Drop 10-15kgs, an oldie but favourite :)
3) Swim even more than I did in 2013
4) Learn a new skill... I know not what but I would like to learn something
I also intend to spend more quality time with my dogs, especially Tyson. He's 7 now and starting to age... and I do want to make sure he has as much fun as he can in the truncated life that dogs have.
So, happy new year everybody. Let's make it a good one.
