I am of one mind with Dr Sheldon Cooper
Sep. 23rd, 2013 09:43 pmI've been having persistent battery problems with my iPhone... it had reached a point where it would be dead in 4-5 hours from a full charge. So, this involved a trip to see a 'genius' at the Apple Store. His 'genius' training allowed him to attach the phone to a diagnostic tool which said the battery was fine. He then went to list all the things I should do to concern battery life... this was a list of all the things I'd already done.
He muttered that there didn't seem to be anything wrong with the phone. I pointed out that in the 10 minutes we'd been talking the battery had gone from 88% to 79% which wasn't, strictly speaking normal. He agreed and suggested there was a problem with one of my back up files and proposed I did a factory reset and clean install before they would replace it.
I questioned him closely about my cloud backups and I wanted to make sure that I didn't overwrite the last valid backup. He assured me that couldn't happen.
1. Guess fucking what? It happened - fortunately I had a second backup from a week ago - the first thing the phone did was create a clean backup with NO BLOODY CONTENT
2. Guess what else? You can't restore photos from iCloud, only from a backup - so if your backup corrupts you could lose your photos...
So. Having established that the problem was, indeed, my backup, I've had to wipe the phone again, restore the faulty backup... when I'm done with that, I'll have to backup the pictures to my laptop, then reinstall the photos I want back to the phone...
Seriously, don't give me bad advice. Especially when it's going to cost me hours and hours of effort.
Phenomenally pissed off right now.
