A link and some random stuff...

Saying I'm a fan of plane crashes would be incorrect, quietly interested?  That might be better.  I used to work in the aircraft industry which gives you some interesting insight when you have dinner with people who've watched their pieces of tin fall out of the sky, or in the case of rockets, explode in style, it's interesting.

I came across this footage of a 747 crashing on take off from Bagram Airbase.  It's not a great angle, which makes it very difficult to see what happens.  The plane is climbing hard and starts a left turn, but then looks like it stalls and goes into a flat spin.  Frankly, I'm checking to see if this is real footage because I've not seen a plane that size get into that sort of trouble.

Anyway, it's fascinating stuff and reminds me of a C-17 crash in Alaska in 2010 where the pilot made too hard a turn while climbing and stalled the plane.

After the morbid stuff, it is sunny here with a forecast high of 19C.  Lots of work to do today.

EDIT: Sounds like cargo, an armoured vehicle, broke loose and shifted in the aircraft. Ouch.  Not a lot you can do about that. :(

Confession of a former diet drink addict...

Last October I went cold turkey on diet drinks.  I was probably drinking 4 or 5 a day, or more, and reading the stuff about the effect of artificial sweetners on your blood chemistry I thought it was time to cut back.  Instead I just stopped.  So far, I've not really felt the urge to drink them.  I'll still have a diet drink as a mixer with a cocktail, but the house has been bereft of Coke Zero and other, similar, things.

For the most part, I've been drinking coffee instead, I've given up caffeine for short periods but frankly, I can't do it.

However, on a warm sunny day it is nice to have a cold drink, and every few weeks I have a treat.  Today is such a day, and it involves a bottle of Mexican Coca Cola, the stuff with sugar in it rather than High Fructose Corn syrup.  Mmmmm....  really is tasty.

Well, that's enough for a few weeks.
