Everything I learned about politics
Aug. 16th, 2012 08:47 amGood piece here from Jim Wright at Wonkette (thanks to
chris_gerrib) and accurate too.
I ran for Student's Union President once and for 5 glorious minutes everybody thought I'd won. Turned out the guy running the STV (*) count had miscounted my 108 as 180 and had to pull me down. Still it was great.
(*) Because myself and another moderate had run a 1 - 2 ticket campaign, at the end of the first round if I'd had 180 I'd have been about 10 votes because the person who won. With Dave Grantham's transfers I'd have gone over the top. Sadly, I actually had 108 and Dave only had 140, and he lost by about a half dozen votes.
Veena went on to serve half a term as SU president before taking a cushy job in the local government. Sound familiar?
