Sitting in a restaurant in Montreal watching a french (as in from the country not Canada) woman lay into an American guy about how he was talking shit about the food in England being crap and that he didn't know what he was talking about.(*)
(*) She lived in London (apparently now the 6th largest French city in the world and considered that all-in-all she could eat at least as well in London as Paris and for international food London beat the crap out of Paris.(**)
(**) It's been over 14 years since I lived in Paris and I'll admit that I struggled to find stuff that wasn't French, OTOH, once I'd worked out the geography of the city and where I was likely to find good food I did eat well.
I wish I'd recorded the conversation.
