Amy something or other from the "Tea Party Express" said the following on CNN today:
"The credit agencies are not proposing to downgrade our credit rating because of what has been done in Washington but because our levels of debt are too high."
This comes to the heart of what I truly detest about US news coverage. The anchor didn't call her on this statement which, in the rest of the world, we would call a LIE.
It's a lie people. The credit rating agencies think the US, even with a net debt of 65% of a GDP is a pretty good bet. They're worried about US political processes stalling the process of paying bond holders their 2.5% month in month out.
A huge part of the problem, in my opinion, is that these people are given a pulpit to spread lies and mis-information, which they might even believe, without any real push back.
It's irresponsible, and just, well, fucking stupid.
The Republican Party has been taken over by liars and idiots and it's scary to watch.
