So, apparently it's St Patricks Day... there was a guy in a green tracksuit in the supermarket, and they were playing Irish music in the sports bar at SeaTac as I left the terminal.
The thing is I just don't GET IT!?
When did this mania about the 17th start? Sure it's a public holiday in the republic and I've been known to have a pint or two of Guiness on the odd St Patricks, but seriously, the level of expectation around having to party on this specific date confuses me.
I've just been trying to explain to USian friends living in London that they really aren't going to find lots of partying. Apparently they tried Kilburn last year and couldn't understand that there wasn't anything much going on.
Anyway, it's probably easier than trying to explain to somebody the other night why the BBC doesn't show the weather forecast for the Republic of Ireland which, when you think about it is no weirder than ABC not showing the weather forecast in Mexico and Canada.
