Poker Networking...
Jan. 25th, 2011 11:11 pmWe have a regular Seattle Poker game for Start Ups and tonight was the night. It used to always be downtown so I could take a bus/cab, but this time it was out in Sodo so I had to drive.
I can safely say that not drinking improves my long game no end. However, I still missed out on a seat at the final table. I'd had pretty poor cards all the way through and had to fold more low pairs than I've ever seen before on account of betting into a positive fold when players you know are raising on a A-high kicker is not a winning strategy.
Sadly, tonight I managed to fold 2 sets that would have been 4 of a kind - 4 2's to be fair, and 2 full houses, 4s and something else... insane...
I managed well though and have a couple of bits of luck on the river where I pulled trip jacks to beat a pair of Aces.
It came down to a huge pot before we consolidated to the final table, I had A-6 (spade and diamonds) with a flush on the table including another ace... I was feeling pretty damn confident when I went all in.
Except the other guy didn't just have a Flush too... he had a straight flush...
Bugger...
Oh well - I probably should have seen it as a possibility, except he'd been playing poorly all night and was desperate. In the end he moved on and I came home.
Better luck, cards needed, and I need to play tighter. I paid too much to see flops that just weren't worth the chips at that stage in the game...
