Minority Rights
Nov. 13th, 2010 12:51 pm In this case, the minority of us who actually like watching Rugby. When Setanta imploded last year, much of their scheduling was bought up by Fox who rolled the Setanta stuff into their "Fox Soccer Plus" premium channel. There was the promise of rugby. Except that promise hasn't materialised.
Having just missed a great game and finding out that with Setanta gone, there's practically no way for any of the local bars to easily carry Rugby Matches, I'm really really really annoyed.
It's not a popular sport in the US, but there's a fair number of us ex-pats and damnit, I want to be able to go to the pub and watch a bloody Rugby match from time to time.
So I've started a Facebook Page and I might start a blog.
Anyway. There is a ray of hope. The IRB and NBC/Universal have reached an agreement that the Rugby World Cup will be broadcast on network TV in the US next year. This is HUGE news and they're promising to stream the remaining games on their website. With any luck this will also involve some kind of app on their MSN tie in. That's something.
But I can't believe that there isn't time for a little rugby *somewhere* in the 24 hour cable schedules.
