Getting Back Up to Speed
Sep. 24th, 2009 02:07 pmI read an article a few months ago about the cyclical nature of running a start-up. There's the initial high of, "wow we're really doing this, and it's fantastic", followed by a crashing, "fuck, do we really have this much work to do", then a lower, "SHIT! where are the fucking customers"...
The last month and a bit was spent in the last two, mostly due to the slow nature of the summer in this rather atypical year. Comparing notes with people I know, for the first time in decades a lot of people actually decided to take a summer holiday. Well, frankly, who can blame them?
However, that has made for a slow August.
In the US it's made slightly worse that August doesn't end until after Labor Day in September. So now we're in September and things are racing again. It's been a pretty rocking week so far. I've had some extremely positive meetings, we've moved forward on the platform to the extent that I'm no longer afraid to show people the demo because it looks excellent. And I've got real customer conversations starting.
As people keep reminding me, we are an extremely early stage start up. It's really only month 3, and we've only just got the actual business set up. However, I've got my 3rd discussion with a lead investor and customer next week, I've got several proposals to create and I've got some consulting work coming in.
It's hard but still beats working for other people.
And now, if you don't mind, I have a flight to catch.
