Amazon Fresh
Dec. 30th, 2008 09:31 amOne of the things I've missed since moving over here has been a decent home grocery delivery service. We were rather spoiled in the UK with Tesco Direct, Sainsbury and Ocado to chose from. Fortunately Amazon Fresh has arrived and I'll admit to being rather impressed.
A decent website, easy to use, good range, and amazing delivery options. The first attempt they arrived slap in the middle of the 1 hour window they gave us, which was good, same the second time. This time we decided to use the deliver while out option.
Technically we were in, but we'd scheduled a pre-6am delivery. This was made all the more impressive by the fact we only ordered the food at 9pm last night.
I get up this morning for a really pointless conference call and sitting on the porch are the groceries including the frozen stuff packed in dry ice.
Excellent and free delivery if you spend over $30.
Price wise: it's a little bit more than QFC or Safeway, probably on par with Metropolitan Market prices. However, as a relatively undisciplined shopper the higher price is made up for by more structure in the shopping process and less impulse buying.
I'm not saying we'll never go grocery shopping again, but I'll admit the ability to order overnight is pretty cool.
