I've been using a local garage for a while now and been slightly bemused by the fact that every time I went in for something the owner would do it and charge me a ridiculously small amount or look at the car and not do anything.

This time he found something wrong :)

The Jeep had stopped starting, it turns out the neutral safety switch (see David the non-automatic car owner look bemused) is broken.  There's a work around and he doesn't want to charge me to do it, so that's fine.  But while he was fiddling he noticed the water pump was leaking and the fan belt was worn.  Both of these I was aware of.

He doesn't want much to do them, sub-$300 being not much in my mind, especially for a water pump which can be a pig of a job, so he'd got the work.  The Jeep is handy and we've done a lot more miles in it than we planned when we bought it (over 4000 now) which is largely down to the emergency of the pranged Honda.

Still, it's good to know that the natural order of garages is restored, even if he is being entirely reasonable about it.  Besides, it will asuage my guilt about all the piddling jobs he's done for me over the last year.

Denny Park Auto - seem to be honest.  About the best you can say about any garage...
