Down in San Diego for various meetings this week including one with a head honcho at Qualcomm. That should be interesting.
Flew down early and had a spell of moderately entertaining air over Northern California, when the flight crew take their seats it's usually a bad sign.
Staying in a different hotel this time and it's a definite improvement, especially the "mangers" reception from 5.30 to 7.30 with a free bar. So I partook and watched the CNN coverage of the election.
It's interesting. While I found it hard to believe that John Kerry could lose in 2004, I also "felt" that he probably was going to. I'm not sure why, he just seemed "dull" whereas even GWB seemed more alive.
I think it's a lot more interesting this time around. Now that Clinton is stepping aside, and assuming that she's made an offer she is happy with (not convinced she's VP material, nor supreme court but the former would solve some issues for Obama) then he's got a lot of options ahead of him. In terms of VP I'm concerned that she'd be the wrong pick and he'd be better off with Richardson or Edwards. Still, there are benefits to having her on the ticket, as well as the negatives of having her in the job for 4 years.
The Blogosphere (the more right leaning parts of it) seems to really really really be getting bent out of shape about him. That suggests that they're worried. Rand Simberg, oft referenced loon, is pushing the boat out on Obama-mania. The issue he's up against is that for the first time, the Democrats have a gifted and charismatic speaker with a range of genuine differences over previous candidates (and that's ignoring his colour)...
It could be an interesting fight.
