Blade Runner
Dec. 29th, 2007 12:17 pmI picked up a copy of the Ultimate Edition at Terminal 4 on the way back before Christmas and just finished importing it into my Movie collection. Here I did hit a snag. The wireline networking isn't up to streaming a D9 rip from the Media Server, it'll handle a D5 which is good enough for Black Books or Goodness Gracious Me or other stuff but not for this.
Fortunately there's a lot of room on the Media Centre itself for this stuff so I've ported a D9 copy to the HDD locally on the Media Centre and ripped a D5 copy to the Media Server where I'll keep the other discs.
Just did a trial play... Mmmm... something to look forward to.
I am leaning towards a new Media Centre but I've given up on trying to have it as an access point for everything, instead, when the time is right I think we'll be getting a BluRay or HD-DVD (or combo player) and I'll keep using the Media Centre as a store for traditional media and other stuff. It is handy to have a DVD library available on the machine thanks to the My Movies plug in app for Media Centre.
We can live with the current box for a while but I'm keeping an eye on the boxes from Cyber Media who do an excellent Shuttle based Media Center box for about what I paid for my current one.
In other news: the iTunes "MCETunes" plug in for Media Centre, and, in fact, iTunes itself has started working with my box. I suspect, therefore, the blocked fans and processor overheating were part of the problem and will be buying some canned air when I get the memory upgrade. At least now I can get stuff from iTunes and watch it via a sensible interface.
