Another  "brilliant" piece from Samizdata - you really really couldn't make this up.

There's a fantastic comment in the comments about how there can be water shortages in a state which has a coastline.  

One of the commentators is a physicist at either Manchester or Salford.  Do we know anybody up there who can explain this stuff to him?

Home in December

I've just changed my travel to get me back to the UK at the beginning of December.  I was due to fly tomorrow night, but unfortunately I can't travel.

So I'll be back the first week and a bit of December.  I'm currently planning to book a return flight which has me coming over for the Eastercon...  fingers crossed that I get that one through corporate travel. 

That solves that then... (media centre stuff)

The media centre can't cope with the current crop of HD codecs.  I suspected that it was probably a performance issue so over lunch I tried a couple of things out including putting the files on the local HDD and playing them locally.  It has the same problems as with the equally large iTunes TV files.  They play for a few minutes but the video starts to slow down until it's unwatchable.

I'll wait until I get my H2 bonus and look at the Media Centre options again.
