In the office trying to get my head around a report defining my role moving into 2007 H2.  Not all that easy with the changes we have been having around here.  On the plus side we're winning some business, on the minus side, I don't think I'm going to earn any commission on anything I'm bringing in.  We'll see.  M is negotiating her package with the beast.  The original offer was better than we expected but everybody, including the new manager is of the opinion she has to push back at least once.

Busy weekend shaping up too.

Tonight: Rugby at the Kangeroo and Kiwi - live NZ v. RSA with the South African Group.

Saturday: Dinner with friends

Sunday: Dinner at a friend's house

I've also bought a 500GB external HDD for the Media Centre.  I was going to get a 750GB one, but they had the 500GB unit on offer at $150, which was just silly money.  So, I've got some Media Centre related tasks to do.  I want to give it a good clean up and defrag the drive in there.  Then I want to move a lot of the Media Content onto the external drive and remap everything and get the external drive onto my network as a share.

There's some DVD ripping software I need to install and I want to iron out the presentation bugs in the My Movies apps I've installed.

After that I'd quite like to get my movie collection ripped and installed so it's on the Media Centre rather than disks around the house.  Finally I'd like to get the rest of the various bits of media I have onto the drive so it's in one place.

Once that is done, I need to get a serious system back up done.  Phew.  That sounds like a lot of work.

One of the things which really annoys me about the current TV industry is the poor status of content you can actually buy.  I would buy shows online in HD if I could.  I really would.  But what I am not prepared to do is buy things which I then have to watch on my PC when I've gone to the trouble of setting up a media centre.

Apple TV seemed like a solution but when I found out that you need to hack the damn thing to play DivX and it has a baby HDD, then I gave up.

Fortunately there is a solution, MCE Tunes allows you to play iTunes content via a Media Centre PC.  Now all that iTunes needs to do is start serving HD content and I'll be a happy bunny.
