We had friends over from the UK for the last couple of weeks, so we had time to do some tourist things.  Highlights...  well, we took the Sea Plane aerial tour of Seattle which was fun.  Then we drove out to have more Pie and less than fine coffee at the diner from Twin Peaks, finally, curving back around for a look at the Snoqualmish Falls.

The following weekend we took to the road.  Catching the car ferry across Elliott Bay to the islands and driving up to Paulsbo (a "Swedish" town) - probably less said about that the better.  Some of the drive was pretty scary.  We filled the car in a place which certainly reminded me of the places in those movies where they find the lost town and everybody gets eaten by mutants.  The pair who pulled up in a 20 year old town car certainly looked the type.  Paulsbo itself was pretty quiet, with the town appearing to close at 10pm.

The next day we drove up to Port Townsend, which was much better.

Work continues as normal.  M has got her authorisation to work card and next week becomes a person with a SSN, and this week she's really started getting traction on the job front.  3 interviews this week, and more to come.

We also spoke to an immigration lawyer about options should we decide to stay/protect ourselves from cockups at my firm.  Well... in short, we have none.  Apparently the allocation of H1Bs for 2007 is already gone and currently they're not planning to release more until October 2008.  Bill Gates is apparently unhappy about this.

There is a route for us if we decide to get a Green Card, which would take about 9 months to get to the point where we could have the flexibility to change jobs but it is a complicated one.

Yesterday was a long hard day.  I feel much better now.

Coming across something like this:

*****
>Well, there's _Logopolis_ (the _Doctor Who_ episode with the biggest body
>count; about 1/3 of the universe gets destroyed), where the inhabitants
>of the eponymous city have a form of mathematics that can change the universe.

If they were so smart, they would have had a source-level debugger,
instead of having to read all of the memory registers by hand in hex.
Besides, given the consequences, they were criminally negligent for
not having any anti-malware protection.
*****

Happy now.
