Bought a bed today.  Actually the first time I've ever had to buy one, which, given I've lived away from home since I was 18 is pretty weird.  Still, we had to.  We're renting the flat out furnished and needed a new bed badly.  The old one is OOOLLLLDDDDD and probably wouldn't pass fire regs, plus it's not something I'd inflict on a tenent.

Also managed my last Tun, at least I assume it will be.  I will probably be in Asia for the next one and SA for the one after and by November we'll probably be in Seattle.  We started organising the flat this afternoon.

One job I've been putting off for a while is moving a bunch of old VHS tapes (some movies you can't get i.e. UHF and home holiday stuff) onto DivX on the main PC.  Of course, now I find the DivX encoder is FUBARd and I'm waiting for the reinstall to work.

Plus ca change and all that...

A few months ago I was trying to figure out how to play iTunes video videos on Windows Media and frankly, had to give up.  The video codecs worked fine, the audio did not.  Getting codecs to work properly is the bane of any downloader's life and this is common.

Today I was trying to upload some old VHS stuff, however, I suddenly found nothing was working.  MPG files which worked were now crashing Media Player, which resulted in a roll back and a bunch of other stuff.  Only to find that the codec pack I'd tried was at fault.  Nor, would it appear, I could use the DivX encoder on my tuner.

I'll do UHF in a format I've tested and get that onto the HDD in SVCD (it's a ratty old VHS copy so it'll be ok) and then fiddle with the DixV encoder a little more.  Ye gods, could they make this stuff any harder?
