Well really?
Oct. 26th, 2005 09:44 am3 days after being given the official bill of health by our SysAdmin, and a rather sarcastic talking to about raising a fuss about an obviously healthy laptop... What do my readers think happened???
Of course the hard drive completely failed. Utterly screwed, toast, stick a fork in her she's done...
Fortunately I haven't lost much, but now I have the problem of not actually having a work PC. I'm using a spare laptop at the moment and they promise they have sourced a replacement unit for me. The main problem, which I was outlining somewhat loudly at the IT department yesterday, is that there is more to replacing a machine than delivering a new box.
Call me a bit anal, but I rather like the machine which arrives from the IT department to have the necessary version of the Operating System (with SP2) already installed (including the correct drivers), plus the version of Office I use, plus the VPN software configured for me, plus a bunch of the work related apps I need and use all the time.
Apparently, and I quote our SysAdmin, there are too many potential configurations for the company to keep standard ones...
There is only one thing to say to that.
Bollocks.
