Vanity Fair and other movies
Aug. 22nd, 2005 10:22 amWent to watch an open air screening of Vanity Fair last night in the grounds of Holbourne Museum, which served as Gabriel Byrne's place in the movie.
I'm not a huge period drama fan and while it was enjoyable with some amusing class induced comedy, the whole was not, sadly the sum of its parts. Bob Hoskins was excellent, but a lot of the rest of the cast could have been used as fence posts.
Still, it was fun to watch it in the setting and be able to turn your head and see the street that was used for most of the "London" shots.
Also watched the Interpreter. What a godawful mess that film is. It wasn't helped by watching it with somebody who actually is from Africa and who found most of the exposition to be outrageously condesending. The police procedure/thriller aspects are well handled, but everything else is a confused mess. Not to mention the plot entirely relies on complete coincidence. One to avoid.
Spanglish was ok(ish) and Kalifornia tried to hard.
Back to watching Season 3 of Alias now.
Also watched Episode 6 of BSG and Stargate.
Stargate was better (a) Sam is back (YAY!), and (b) the cast are settling into their roles. It was a much more traditional episode of the series, and much less like Farscape.
I am, however, getting as tired of Planet British Columbia as I think we were of Planet Essex Gravel Pit.
