Vegas was pretty much as I remembered it, sadly. Even staying in the Madalay Bay it was pretty dire. I was also shocked at the cost of everything. Food was reasonable. Drinks, unless you were gambling, were not. $6.50 for a bottle of decent beer is roughly twice what we pay for a pint in Seattle and very close to UK prices.
The conference started badly. Our display stand didn't turn up. It was in Vegas, UPS said so. It just wasn't at the Mandalay Bay. *sigh* We got it 5 minutes before set up was due to end.
The announcement went well, although a thick headed security guard needed somebody from the conference organisers to come and say that I was allowed to attend the talk I was giving - which was amusing.
I gambled, a little - ending up down about $50 on the trip. I had a lot of fun playing Blackjack in the old strip for a couple of hours on $150 and ended up with $155 - I tipped the dealer and took that as a pointer that it was time to move on.
On my way home now, sitting in LAX BA lounge which is just DREADFUL - a nasty horid lounge in a NASTY airport. It could be worse, I could still be in Vegas.
