I sat next to a guy on the plane home on Friday night. He was a Brit who now lives in Seattle who was coming home on business. We discussed living in the USA and I mentioned that between living there and all the business travel I've put on the best part of 2 stone (15kg) in the last few years through bad eating and drinking (well, good eating and good drinking specifically). He agreed this was a problem that he had faced when moving to the US and travelling on business. He had, he said, just lost...How much had the man lost Dave? )

I haven't moved for 3 years but last time I did I visited my local supermarkets and got lots of fruit boxes - the book owners friend.

Where the hell have all the boxes gone? We've tried all over the City and the only luck came from following stackers around and pinching the boxes off them when they had unloaded them. Otherwise, apparently, the policy at all the Bath supermarkets is to whisk them to the back and flatten them!

This is most inconvenient. I have had to BUY book boxes from the Pickfords place next door to the office. This really won't do. Supermarkets are meant to have the boxes lined up at checkout. When did this sensible practise stop???

So I called Telewest today to try to arrange the complex move next door. I might as well have been speaking in Russian as the woman I first spoke didn't want to speak to me. She didn't want to try to arrange anything until the next door neighbours cancelled their account, she couldn't see any better deals for me and she wanted me off the phone quickly.

I was annoyed by this.

I phoned back, after checking on the website to see that I could, in fact get a better deal. I spoke to somebody else who agreed completely that the other woman was talking nonsense and has arranged the move of the account, set the day and got me a better cable/phone/tv package for less money per month on a 6, rather than 12 month contract.

That's more like it.
