Another Political One...
Feb. 11th, 2005 09:39 amAfter being impressed with John Major's understated honesty on the Today program yesterday, today we had John Prescott.
What a difference a day makes, as they say. Evasive, unable to answer a direct question, distorting "the truth" to breaking point. I was helpless with laughter at one point listening to him - promises John? I'm not sure you know what they are...
There was a classic exchange where Prescott said that Labour's "pledge" cards could be trusted. Eddie Mair responded by saying while it was true that there had been no rise in income tax, there had been in National Insurance. Mair suggested that it wasn't particularly honest to keep to the letter but not the spirit of a promise. John didn't quite see it that way.
