Holiday...
May. 7th, 2004 02:04 pmLast year we booked quite an expensive holiday and (my cock ups such as misreading tickets aside) it was ok - not great just ok. Part of that, was the holiday company didn't actually book our hotel.
This year I'm not prepared to spend as much, but I would like a holiday. We've a couple of options presenting themselves.
A warning: I am not one for siteseeing holidays. If I want to go site seeing I'll make a special trip of it and we'll go and see things. This is expressly about the "I'm tired, over worked and want to read lots" type of holiday. This will involve somewhere warm, with a bar, cold beer, a swimming pool and at least half my luggage allowance in books.
1. Use my airmails. I've now got 100,000 airmiles for BA, which is a couple of returns to the US. I was thinking of using these to go to the world con, but M isn't all that keen. Alternatively, we could go to South Africa and see the in-laws. M isn't all that keen on that either, but we ought to go at some point. I'm also reluctant, given the rate the miles are racking up to use them. At this rate, next year we'll have enough for Premium Economy or Business Class returns to Australia, which would be a serious holiday to take, with stopovers in Singapore and the like.
2. Book something last minute. I've been looking at some of the deals and have noticed a lot of All Inclusive specials for the Carribean at what look like far too good to be true rates. For example, 14 days in the Dominican Republic in a 5* hotel, All Inclusive for £450 per person.
I have a thing that stuff that seems too good to be true often is. Anybody here been to the Dominican Republic, anything I should know about - it's just £450 a person for a 2 week holiday including all the "local" booze and food you can take seems a rather good deal to me.
They even do Adult only hotels, which given the nightmare that is the Med would be welcome.
